Standing in the Gap

In the past two months, 7 refugee families have legally arrived in our community through the State Department’s Refugee Resettlement Program, seeking safety and a fresh start. They have fled persecution, hardship and fear, leaving behind everything they once knew in search of peace. As they step into an unfamiliar world, they face overwhelming challenges—a lack of community, culture shock, and learning a new language in a new place.

With recent cuts to federal refugee aid, these families are struggling to meet their basic needs. But as followers of Christ, we are called to be His hands and feet, stepping in where help is needed most. In Matthew 25:35, Jesus reminds us, ‘For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me.’

Right now, we have the opportunity to live out this calling—to love our neighbors as ourselves (Mark 12:31) and extend the same grace and generosity that Christ has shown us. These families need help with rent, utilities, and groceries as they work toward self-sufficiency. A little support now can make all the difference in their journey toward stability.

Let’s be the Church in action. Let’s show these families that they are not alone—that they are seen, loved, and welcomed. Every prayer, every donation, and every act of kindness is a reflection of God’s love. Let’s welcome them with open arms, just as Christ has welcomed us.
